Fakeaway

About Fakeaway

Fakeaway is a recipe site for original copycat recipes — homemade versions of the takeaway flavours you know. We write our own recipes, test them in a normal home kitchen, and publish what works.

Not affiliated, not endorsed

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the takeaway brands mentioned on this site. Brand names are used purely to describe the flavour profile of a recipe — KFC-style fried chicken, Nando's-style peri-peri, McDonald's-style burger sauce, that kind of thing.

All recipes, photographs, and writing on Fakeaway are our own original work. If a recipe happens to taste similar to something you've had from a takeaway, that's because we're aiming for that flavour — not because we copied anyone's secret formula.

Why neutral copy

You'll notice we don't say "the official KFC recipe" or "the real Nando's peri-peri sauce" anywhere on the site. That's deliberate:

  • Brands protect their recipes for good reason — we respect that.
  • Search engines (and humans) find "copycat chicken" perfectly well without us claiming it's "the" recipe.
  • It keeps us on the right side of trademark law while still being useful.

How we develop recipes

Each recipe starts with the question: what makes this takeaway flavour distinctive? Then we build from flavour principles — the herb blend on fried chicken, the smoke-heat-acid balance on peri-peri, the sauce ratios on a burger. Recipes get tested multiple times until they're reliable in a normal kitchen with normal equipment.

No deep fryers required for the KFC-style stuff (oven or shallow fry works), no pizza oven needed for the pizza recipes (a screaming-hot oven + a pizza stone does the job).
